This book i would qualified it as a memoir of the common history we share with the rest of latinamerican countries, sad story of terrorism, coming from the leftist, coming from narcotics or just for "fun" ,read i t as psycopats , because that's what these monsters are. García Márquez, as most of us know, was a fantastic writer, he used to write for El Espectador, a Colombian newspaper, and my father taught me to read through his newspaper columns. The way he worte these harrowing stories is absolutely wonderful: through this one can feel the pain of the relatives of those who were kidnapped and, worst, the two women killed, one of them the sister of a very close friend. The author, famous for "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and other great novels, describes a number of kidnappings by the Medelin drugs cartel, and in particular the effect that confinement has on the victims. The Colombian writer started his career as a journalist and felt the problems of his country deeply. He was described by one Colombian president as "the greatest Colombian who ever lived". In a world where kidnapping for ransom or political reasons is widespread, this is a "must read" book for anyone wishing to understand the issues. ¡Escritura increíble! Es un reportaje novelado del secuestro de periodistas y familiares de políticos colombianos por parte de “los extraditables”. Con la maestría de sus novelas, aunque con austeridad literaria, García Márquez ordena los datos y deja que los hechos hablen. Las condiciones del secuestro, los asesinatos y el impacto en las familias son de tal crudeza que no necesitan de adorno ni distracción. El resultado es un relato de precisión quirúrgica sobre el contexto del narcotráfico a principios de los 1990 en Colombia, el tira y afloja de Pablo Escobar con el gobierno para tratar su entrega, y el impacto emocional en los secuestrados y sus familias.
